At American Screen Solutions, we are committed to providing not just an industry-leading, high-quality catalog of retractable screens from Phantom Screens, but also retractable screens equipped with the latest innovative smart home technology from Somfy. To this end, our installers take part in regular seminars dedicated to learning the newest software and hardware from Somfy to ensure that we are always giving our customers state-of-the-art seamless smart tech with our retractable screen products.

A few short weeks ago, our installers took part in one of these seminars to learn all about Somfy’s new TaHoma smart software. Over the course of three days, AMSS installers not only refreshed their skills with a presentation on Phantom’s screen installation techniques, but learned about how Somfy’s new Zigbee/TaHoma environment will improve the seamless usability of retractable screens within your smart home, working in conjunction with the rest of your smart devices to easily extend and retract whenever you need it.

Honing Our Skills with Phantom Screens

The training began with a refresher course on Phantom Screens products, led by Phantom Screens Support Technician Emily Sutterley, who reviewed the basics of Phantom Screens product installations before moving on to more advanced techniques that installers can use to make the installation process as smooth and painless as it can be. With a combination of both lectures and hands-on training, Sutterly taught our installers the best way to ensure that not only our Phantom products are secured quickly, but securely as well.

Staying Up-To-Date with Somfy

The second half of the training was an extended look into the future of home automation with Somfy, led by Somfy’s Training Manager Thomas Harkness. Focused on the TaHoma and Zigbee products, Harkness detailed the advantages both installers and customers can look forward to with the implementation of Zigbee and the TaHoma in one’s home.

Zigbee is designed to replace the current communication format of Somfy products, Radio Technology Somfy (RTS), which lacks the ability to monitor the current position of retractable screens and can be considered “non-intelligent.” Zigbee, on the other hand, is similar in that its a communication format for retractable screens to respond to signals from one’s remote control or phone, but unlike RTS, it continuously monitors the position of the screen so as to offer a much wider range of control possibilities to the user. For instance, one can pre-program several many different screen positions via the TaHoma app, allowing one to set their screen to a specific desired position at the push of a button. In addition, the new TaHoma system is able to seamlessly integrate with your home’s existing smart infrastructure (such as Apple Home, Google Home, or Alexa), giving you the capability to monitor and operate your screens alongside all your other smart devices in one universal interface.

All in all, our installers are dedicated to ensuring they’re above the competition when it comes to not just installing screens — but giving you the state-of-the-art screen experience Phantom Screens and Somfy are known for. If you’re interested in a Somfy-equipped Phantom Screen for your home, contact us today for a free estimate! Our Phantom Screen products are fitted with the latest technology Somfy has to offer, meaning you can rest assured your retractable screens are just as smart as the rest of your home.
