Located in Florida, and built by Legacy Custom Built Homes, the New American Home gives industry professionals a firsthand glimpse into the latest design trends, construction materials, and innovative techniques that can be part of any new or remodeled home. The architect chose Phantom’s motorized screens in combination with retractable screens for oversized doors, to maximize and blend the indoor and outdoor living areas of the home. The retractable screens provide insect protection, solar shading and clear views to the pool, so the backyard can be used for entertaining and relaxing all year round.
The addition of retractable screens for big and oversized glass walls and patio openings has created multiple indoor-outdoor living and entertaining spaces that are completely protected from the Florida elements and can be adjusted as needed. When the patio screens are not required, they can be retracted into the home’s columns using a remote or smart device, leaving a clear view of the pool in their place.

The Need
The architects wanted to find a way to open up the kitchen, dining and family rooms to the outdoors without having to worry about bugs or strong UV rays, but they did not want to sacrifice the overall design of the home by implementing a permanent screen fixture.
The Solution
Phantom’s motorized screens were added to provide a seamless flow from the indoor to outdoor living spaces. The screens allow a good view to the pool and natural ventilation, while keeping out insects and harmful UV rays. And, perhaps most importantly, these retractable screens could be fully opened or retracted at the homeowners’ discretion, allowing them to fully take in the outdoor natural light and elements when they pleased.

The mesh of this patio screen allows for a great view of the pool area while filtering up to 90% of UV rays, reducing cooling costs, and protecting artwork and furniture from fading in sun. A tighter mesh provides shade that reduces the sun's glare and heat in your space. While all of our meshes block UV rays to some extent, our solar meshes are designed from the ground up to prevent the majority of those pesky UV rays from hitting you and your family.

Retractable Motorized Screens are custom-built when ordered for a perfect fit. For mesh screens, we work with openings up to 40 feet wide (though size limitations exist, depending on width to height ratios).
Screen Mesh Options:
The material of your screen material gives you a surprising amount of control over what comes in and out of your space. Choose a tighter or looser mesh for your ideal combination of air, light, heat, and bug protection.
Insect mesh
Whether it's horseflies or no-see-ums, Phantom Screens our insect meshes come in a variety of weaves to keep out whatever's bugging you. It's also the most open type of mesh, so it provides more ventilation and visibility while reducing up to 55% of UV rays.
Privacy mesh or fabric
Keep harsh sun and looky-loos at bay with a finely-woven privacy mesh. These screens can block up to 100% of UV rays, and are available in multiple colors and fabrics. They're Greenguard, lead-free, and Microban-certified.
Solar mesh
A tighter mesh provides shade that reduces the sun's glare and heat in your space. All of our meshes block UV rays to some extent, but solar meshes can block out up to 80% of UV rays, while still allowing airflow. This mesh is a great choice for protecting your art and furniture from sun damage.
Climate-control vinyl
We offer a fourth screen type exclusively for outdoor spaces. Clear Vinyl walls are proven to retain heat in cool months and keep your space cooler in hot months.
Recessed or Surface Mount?
Our motorized retractable screens can be recessed from view by integrating them with the building structure, or surface-mounted onto existing structures.
Recessed Mount
Tucked away and out of sight, a recessed mount is typically done during construction. The entire unit, including tracks and rollers, can be recessed directly into columns, archways, wood, brick, stucco, concrete, stone - you name it!
Surface Mount
Add some flair to your home - surface mount can be added on to existing structures so you can extend your indoor/outdoor space. Mounted onto columns, wood, concrete or stucco, it can be color matched to the material of your home to maintain your decor.
Cable Guide
If your project is flanked by open corners, or decorative columns, or you want an exterior mounted solar shade, we'll install your screen using a self-tensioning cable-guide system that doesn't need posts or tracks.

Don't dread DIY: installation is included. Your Phantom motorized screens will be professionally installed by factory-trained, authorized experts. In fact, Phantom Door Screens can be installed on most in-swing doors without the door being opened!

Maintenance
Phantom Screens need minimal maintenance. As the screens are retracted when not in use during our hot and wet Florida summer months, they are safely stored in their housing. We recommend cleaning the screens with mild detergent and water, and gently wipe them off.
